College hoops e-mail Q&A
By Bill Koch and Dustin Dow
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Q. From Jeff in Elizabethtown, Ky.: Didn't UC have the highest percentage of grads in Conference USA in the last year or two? I also remember reading somewhere that UC has the highest cumulative GPA in the league. Is this true?
A: Three members of last year's team - Taron Barker, Derek Hollman and Leonard Stokes - completed their degrees by the end of the 2003 spring or summer quarters. Rod Flowers transferred. UC had a 100 percent graduation rate on the 2002 NCAA Division I Graduation Rates Report for the class that entered in 1995-96 and won the Conference USA Sport Academic Award in men's basketball in 2001-02 for having the highest team grade point average in that sport. Overall, 23 of the 38 players who have completed their eligibility under Huggins have graduated, according to the UC sports information office.
Q. From Chris in Colerain Township: What is the status of Asrangue Souleymane? What's up with Mike Pilgrim?
A: UC hopes to redshirt Souleymane to give him a chance to refine his skills and get stronger, but that decision doesn't have to be declared in advance. Pilgrim has a stress fracture in his foot and probably will redshirt this season.
