TV series: One plans wedding; another explains life to Jessica

By Lauren Bishop
The Cincinnati Enquirer

[IMAGE] Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra will share their lives leading up to their wedding in a seven-episode MTV series.
One is the wholesome member of boy band 98ƒ who married an equally wholesome pop star. The other is a dancer-turned-singer-turned-actress whose credits include Playboy, Baywatch and having married Dennis Rodman.

What do they have in common? Both of them - that would be Nick Lachey and Carmen Electra, if you haven't already guessed - hail from Cincinnati, and both now have their own shows on MTV documenting their relationships with their respective significant others.

The second season of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, the show chronicling the lives of Lachey and his wife, Jessica Simpson, premieres at 10 p.m. Wednesday.

It's followed by the new show, 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave at 10:30 p.m. The seven-episode series shows Electra and musician Dave Navarro as they plan their "anything-but-traditional, extraordinarily sexy wedding," as promised by MTV.

Here's what you can expect to see on both shows:

'Newlyweds'

Nick and Jessica mark their first anniversary at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, but Jessica is turned off by the elderly crowd at an Oktoberfest celebration downstairs after her initial confusion about what exactly it was. (Nick: "It's a German celebration." Jessica: "Of what, October?")

They continue their anniversary celebration with a carriage ride through New York's Central Park in and dinner at Tavern on the Green. Dessert: a replica of the top tier of their wedding cake, especially flown in by Nick to surprise Jessica.

Not to be outdone, a lingerie-clad Jessica surprises Nick on his 30th birthday by jumping out of a cake and serenading him - and dozens of guests.

Also this season, watch for more of Nick redecorating, more of Jessica shopping (for items including $1,400 sheets) and more Jessica grappling with the English language. (At one point, she asks Nick what to call "sports guys." Nick patiently explains the word is "athletes.")

' 'Til Death Do Us Part'

Episode 1: Carmen and Dave meet with their wedding planner. The first item of business: A David LaChapelle photo shoot for the wedding invitations featuring Carmen and Dave lying naked on a morgue table. Later, Dave's dad and stepmother visit to find out whether they can assist with wedding planning. (Maybe they'll help out with the invitations.)

Episode 2: Dave heads off to Europe to tour with Jane's Addiction, but not before helping Carmen choose a wedding cake and flowers and finding time for her dress fitting. (Yes, she'll be wearing a dress.)

Episode 3: With Dave still in Europe, Carmen scouts out wedding locations and goes wedding band shopping. Later, Carmen's friends throw her an extravagant bridal shower, complete with a blow-up doll and a dwarf stripper.

Episode 4: Carmen spends her morning checking out a new wedding location and Dave returns from Europe that night. The next day, the couple focuses on the seating arrangement for the wedding before heading to Vegas, the site of Carmen's first wedding, for their combined bachelor/bachelorette party at, fittingly, the Hard Rock Hotel.

Episode 5: Carmen and Dave sign their marriage license, and Carmen tears up as she and Dave pick the song they will dance to at the reception. Just days before the ceremony, Dave decides to have his colon cleaned out. Later, Dave doesn't feel so good, so a doctor comes to the house to give him a vitamin shot in the rear. Then, at the rehearsal dinner, Carmen's and Dave's families meet for the first time. Will Dave be able to stomach the stress?

Episode 6: Carmen wakes up in the hotel room on the morning of the wedding to find her room has no heat. Meanwhile, Dave goes to the gym for one last pre-wedding workout. Carmen and the bridesmaids get made up as Dave and the groomsmen prepare for the ceremony to begin.

Episode 7: The wedding. Carmen and Dave exchange the vows they wrote themselves. Although one of the live birds that's part of the ceremony tries to disrupt the proceedings, Carmen and Dave still manage to become husband and wife. The reception features the usual: cake, speeches, bouquet tossing, drinking, celebrities, Playmates and a musical performance by Dave and friends.
