Deputy, officer shot responding to robbery
TROTWOOD, Ohio - A Montgomery County sheriff's deputy and a Trotwood police officer were shot while responding to a report of a burglary in progress, authorities said.
Sheriff's Deputy Johnathan Miller was in stable condition in a hospital Monday night with a gunshot wound to the face, said sheriff's Maj. Phil Plummer. Plummer did not have the identity of the Trotwood police officer, but said he was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the throat.
The suspect, whose identity was not released, was in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital with a gunshot wound, said Plummer. Plummer said the incident began when a homeowner reported a burglary in progress shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. The homeowner gave police a description of the suspect's vehicle, and the Trotwood police officer and Miller spotted the car at a gas station.
Plummer said the officers encountered a suspect and placed him in the back of the Trotwood officer's cruiser. When they tried to get him out of the car to handcuff him, the suspect shot the officer and Miller and took off in the cruiser, said Plummer.
