WESTWOOD - The Hamilton County sheriff will be the speaker at the Cheviot-Westwood Kiwanis Club luncheon today.
Sheriff Simon Leis Jr. will be speaking about neighborhood crime at the noon luncheon at Westwood First Presbyterian Church, 3011 Harrison Ave.

Human sled race new IceFest attraction
HAMILTON - The city will be holding a sled race Jan. 24 that mimics the Alaskan Iditirod dog sled race, but with one significant difference.
Humans will be pulling the sleds.
The Great Miami Valley YMCA is sponsoring the race over a 1,200-foot long course. Five stations will be placed along the course that will require the driver or crew to perform a maneuver or solve a problem.
Each team will consist of five or more members, who must design and build their sleds. All sleds are required to have wheels, as snow cannot be guaranteed.
The race is a new event during the city's third-annual IceFest, Jan. 23-24.
Housing development on Morrow agenda
MORROW - This Warren County village's council will be holding a special meeting todaywith the zoning inspector, planning commission and a developer.
They will be discussing a proposed development that would include about 500 new homes.
Wall ceremony to be aired on cable TV
MASON - The Intercommunity Cable Regulatory Commission (ICRC) will be replaying the ceremony from this city's traveling Wall That Heals exhibit.
The ceremony will be played at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 and Feb. 8. ICRC programming is viewed on Channel 15 in certain communities.
The half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which visited Mason in October, was nearly 250 feet long and contained more than 58,000 names. The exhibit also included a display of memorabilia left at the original wall in Washington.
Ribbon sale nets $211 for Cheviot projects
CHEVIOT - The Cheviot Action Partnership netted $211 from its annual "Tie One On For a Safe Holiday" program.
The organization - a collaboration between Cheviot residents, business owners and the police department - sells ribbons each year to decorate several Christmas trees that surround a crËche in the business district. The ribbons sell for $1 for adults and 50 cents for children and are personalized.
Proceeds go to community events.
