Human sled race new IceFest attraction

HAMILTON - The city will be holding a sled race Jan. 24 that mimics the Alaskan Iditirod dog sled race, but with one significant difference.

Humans will be pulling the sleds.

The Great Miami Valley YMCA is sponsoring the race over a 1,200-foot long course. Five stations will be placed along the course that will require the driver or crew to perform a maneuver or solve a problem.

Each team will consist of five or more members, who must design and build their sleds. All sleds are required to have wheels, as snow cannot be guaranteed.

The race is a new event during the city's third-annual IceFest, Jan. 23-24.

The ceremony will be played at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 and Feb. 8. ICRC programming is viewed on Channel 15 in certain communities.

The half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which visited Mason in October, was nearly 250 feet long and contained more than 58,000 names. The exhibit also included a display of memorabilia left at the original wall in Washington.
