Family and friends of a teenage Anderson Township gymnast who died Monday will gather to celebrate his life Saturday.
Fifteen-year-old Jordan Bonne, a sophomore at Turpin High School, suffered a fatal head injury while competing in a gymnastics meet Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.
On Saturday, Crossroads Community Church in Oakley will hold a "Jordan Bonne Celebration Service" at 10 a.m. The church is located at 3500 Madison Road.
Jordan, a nationally ranked gymnast, was competing in a trampoline event at the Flip Fest Invitational in the Knoxville Convention Center when the accident occurred.
Jordan was attempting a move he had never done in competition when he tried to make a correction, said Brian Eaton, communications director for USA Gymnastics, which received an account of the accident from Jordan's coach. USA Gymnastics is governing body of the sport in the United States.
Jordan's parents, Matt and Shirley Bonne, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The 12-foot padding around the trampoline was 6 more feet and thicker than required by USA Gymnastics, Eaton said.
