Roethlisberger
just visiting
Miami RedHawks quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and coach Terry Hoeppner attended the North practice for the Senior Bowl on Wednesday in Mobile, Ala. Roethlisberger, who is entering the draft after his junior season, was not eligible to play in the game, but Hoeppner said he wanted his star quarterback to experience the meet-and-greet nature of the week. One Miami player, offensive lineman Jacob Bell, is playing. Hoeppner said the national exposure - four Miami games were broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2 - helped Bell land a roster spot and "has already helped recruiting." Roethlisberger talked with Michigan quarterback John Navarre and Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese, a former Miami assistant coach.

Raiders won't
name Payton
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis apparently will wait until after the Super Bowl to talk to his next coaching candidates. Davis appears to have his eyes set on members of the New England Patriots' staff - perhaps defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel or offensive coordinator Charlie Weis - and not Dallas assistant Sean Payton. The Cowboys said Wednesday that Payton has decided to stay with Dallas.
