Seton senior gets venue for her art

Good Things Happening

Allen Howard

Natalie Kremer has had an interest in art since age six. And for the past year, she has served as a library assistant. So it was only natural that she combine both interests.

The Seton High School senior is now showing her artwork at the Covedale Branch Library, 4980 Glenway Ave., where she works as a student assistant.

"The library is a good place to meet a lot of people and definitely a place where artwork can be exhibited," Natalie said. "I am amazed at the number of people who come to me and comment on my artwork."

She said her selection of about 30 pieces of her art, titled Works on Paper, includes charcoal, watercolor, pencil, pastel and wash paintings.

The branch held an opening reception for her on Jan. 9. Exhibit hours are 12-8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

"I have always had an interest in art. I started studying it at age six at the Art Academy. I continued studying in school," she said. "I plan to major in art when I attend college. I don't know what I will do with a degree in art, but I plan to get one."

She said she has considered going to the University of Cincinnati or the Cleveland Institute of Art. She said she has been accepted by the College of Mount Saint Joseph and Ashland College, Ashland, Ohio.

Natalie, 17, is the daughter of Paul and Mary Rose Kremer of Delhi Township.

Therapist award

Brad Carman, a respiratory therapist at Shriners Burns Institute, was among the national award winners at the American Association for Respiratory Care's 49th International Respiratory Congress in Las Vegas last month.

Carman, also an adjunct professor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, was honored as the 2003 Transport Section Specialty Practitioner of the Year.

He developed a medication calculation spreadsheet to automatically calculate drug dosage based on the patient's weight. The tool was recognized as an area of excellence by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.

"I feel privileged to work for an organization where we help to limit the devastating effects of burn injury for children," Carman said.

Also, the Transport Team at Shriners recently won the Fixed Wing Award of Excellence from the Association of Air Medical Services for outstanding contributions in patient care and safety.
