XAVIER - Imam W. Deen Mohammed, a spiritual leader for American Muslims and former leader of the American Society of Muslims, will present a lecture titled "Leadership in the African-American Religious Community" at 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at Xavier University.
The free event will be held at the Schiff Family Conference Center in the Cintas Center.
Miami introduces journalism program
MIAMI U. - A new Miami University program that will allow students to earn a bachelor's degree in journalism will be offered in the fall, school officials say.
Students majoring in journalism also will be required to major in a nonmedia-related field. The program will combine faculty from the English and communication departments who will collaborate with faculty in Miami's Interactive Media Studies.
Holly Wissing, Miami spokeswoman, said there are four final candidates for director of the program: Tom Callinan, editor and vice president of the Enquirer; Richard Campbell, former director of journalism at Middle Tennessee State University; Jo Ann Caplin, distinguished professor at Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communication, and Ted Pease, head of Utah State University's journalism department.
The director is expected to be named this spring.
Cincinnati State, NKU collaborate
CINCINNATI STATE - Cincinnati State Technical and Community College's civil engineering technology program has entered an agreement with Northern Kentucky University that allows Cincinnati State's surveying graduates to earn a bachelor's of science degree in the construction management-surveying major at NKU.
Cincinnati State's certificate will serve as the third year of the bachelor's degree, while the last year is handled by NKU. The four-year surveying degree is one of a handful offered in the nation, school officials said.
U. of Dayton hires new vice president
U. of DAYTON - Robert E. Johnson, who built the enrollment management operation at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., has been named vice president for enrollment management at the University of Dayton.
The Detroit native has served as vice provost for enrollment management at Oakland University since 1995.
Previously, Johnson served as executive director of marketing and enrollment management at Central State University. Johnson starts at UD on March 1, replacing Chris MuŅoz, who took a similar position at Case Western Reserve University.
