Summer jobs come with free workout

By Sheila McLaughlin
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BLUE ASH - It's work that comes with a perk.

When job-seekers sign up Saturday for about 40 seasonal and part-time positions in the city's parks and recreation department, they'll get more than a paycheck if they get the job.

A free membership to work out and swim at the recreation center and free or discounted golf are part of the package, job fair coordinator Bets Locke said.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the recreation center, helps the city recruit new workers annually for about 75 percent of available jobs that range from camp counselors to the landscaping crew.

New on the list this year are beer servers for the golf course, which will sell suds for the first time ever in May.

Applicants must be at least 15 years old, but Locke said the city is looking for more than just teen-age summer worker.

"We also want seniors, housewives, college students, adults that might be looking for summer employment, whether it be a teacher or whatever," she said, noting that beer servers have to be at least 20.

Members of the city human resources staff will be at the fair to help with applications and answer questions, Locke said.
