Boothe powers XU past Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. - Tara Boothe, with 19 points, led Xavier to a 66-55 victory over Rhode Island in the Atlantic 10 Sunday.

Kristy Wallner added nine points and Aida Sarajlija eight. Freshman Miranda Green also tallied nine points, including five free throws in the final minute and a half.

Wallner and Alexis Henderson each had seven rebounds for the Musketeers (12-7, 4-4), as XU held a 38-26 edge on the boards.

Shayla Johnson had 18 points and Katie Stailing added 16 to lead Rhode Island (10-8, 4-4).

Xavier will play at Dayton at 7 p.m. Friday.

No. 21 TCU 73, Cincinnati 57

FORT WORTH, Texas - Sandora Irvin and Ebony Shaw each scored 19 points to lead Texas Christian past Cincinnati.

Irvin also grabbed 15 rebounds, setting a school career record with 778. The previous mark was 771. Natasha Lacy added 10 points for the Lady Frogs (15-3, 4-1 Conference USA).

Debbie Merrill scored 15 points and Valerie King had 11 for Cincinnati (10-10, 1-5). Karen Twehues had eight rebounds.

The Bearcats led 33-27 at halftime but were outscored 46-24 in the second half when the Lady Frogs shot 57 percent from the field to the Bearcats' 25 percent.

Coach Jeff Mittie recorded his 100th win at TCU.

"We just need to put two halves together," UC coach Laurie Pirtle said. "The way we played in the first half was not a fluke; we are a good basketball team."

Cincinnati will attempt to snap its six-game road losing streak against Louisville at 7 p.m. Saturday in Freedom Hall.

No. 7 Penn St. 70, Ohio State 64

COLUMBUS - Kelly Mazzante scored 19 points to lead No. 7 Penn State to its eighth straight win.

Ohio State, ranked 17th to start the season, has fallen out of the Top 25 by losing five of six and three straight at Value City Arena - after winning the previous 24 at home.
