Kroger recalls roast beef

The Kroger Co. Wednesday announced a voluntary recall of Private Selection Roast Beef sold by some Kroger-owned supermarkets this month. A sample taken from an Atlanta Kroger by the Georgia Department of Agriculture tested positive for listeria monocytogenes, which can cause high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. The roast beef was distributed through the deli service counters at Kroger stores in 17 states, including Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Customers should take it back to Kroger. Questions? Call Kroger at (800) 632-6900.

AK signs deals for antimicrobial steel

AK Coatings, the unit of Middletown's AK Steel marketing antimicrobial-coated steel, has signed agreements with three heating, cooling and air conditioning equipment suppliers to offer the coating. Curran International in Houston, MJC Inc. in Marietta, Ga., and AST/Acme Coatings & Linings in Louisville have licensed the capability to coat heating and cooling products with AK's AgION antimicrobial compound. Terms weren't disclosed. Antimicrobial-coated steel doesn't eliminate the need for cleaning, but it does inhibit the growth of microbes, AK Coatings says.
