James and Paula Lucas - former Blue Ash residents - were killed Thursday in a car accident while traveling from their home in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., to visit their children in Greater Cincinnati.
Their daughter, Kelly, lives in Fairfield and their son, Kevin is a student at Miami University. The accident happened on Interstate 65, about 20 miles south of Louisville. Their car skidded on ice and was struck by a tractor-trailer.
Until they moved to Florida about 18 months ago, Mr. Lucas, 47, served businesses consulting in information technology as an employee of Hewlett-Packard.
Mrs. Lucas, 46, was a labor and delivery nurse for Dr. Carol Egner when she returned to school to become a nurse-practitioner. "She was very smart and she was wonderful with patients," Egner said.
Mr. and Mrs. Lucas met when they were in high school and were married for 28 years.
The Lucases were former members of Hartzell United Methodist Church and St. Paul United Methodist Church, where they worked as youth counselors and Sunday school teachers.
Survivors include their daughter, Kelly Lucas McDonald of Fairfield; son, Kevin Lucas; Mrs. Lucas' mother, Ruth Meissner of College Hill, and sister, Gay Smith; Mr. Lucas' mother, Carol Johnson, and siblings, Linda Clark, Lew Lucas, Kathy Lucas and Sheryl Johnson; and a step-grandson.
The funeral is 10 a.m. today at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8221 Miami Road, Madeira. Entombment is at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Memorials: Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4460 Lake Forest Drive, Cincinnati 45242; or Breast Cancer Alliance, 11687 Lebanon Road, Cincinnati 45241.
