Cincinnati goes "Red for Women" as the American Heart Association launches its campaign to educate women about the dangers of heart disease. Local highlights include:
7 p.m. Thursday: A panel of experts answers heart health questions at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday: The campaign kicks off downtown at Lazarus-Macy's as the American Heart Association hands out gifts to the first 100 women wearing red on the second floor of the Fountain Place building.
5:30 p.m. Feb. 12: Margo Howard, daughter of Ann Landers, presents "Messages of the Heart," at Rockdale Temple, 8501 Ridge Road in Amberley Village.
Feb. 21: The Heart Ball. This year's theme is "Discoveries of the Heart: An Egyptian Odyssey." Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington.

The UC Heart and Vascular Center will offer free cholesterol tests every Friday in February at University Pointe in West Chester Township. Appointments: 475-7862. Remember to fast for eight hours before the screening.
4 p.m. next Tuesday: Mercy Hospital Anderson, Ohio Heart Health Center and Cardiology of Associates hold a free seminar on congestive heart failure at the hospital in Anderson Township. Reservations: 956-3729.
3:30 p.m. Feb. 11: Wellness Wednesday, a program of free heart screenings for women at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. Information: (859) 962-5600.
