AMBERLEY VILLAGE - The planning commission has recommend against creation of a planned unit development classification that would allow a proposed development of 137 homes on the former Crest Hills Country Club to go forward.
The proposed development has stirred up opposition from some residents in this Hamilton County village.
"I had complete faith in the perception and far-reaching wisdom of the planning commission in the decision that they made," said 53-year resident Stanley Cohen.
Village Council can accept or modify the recommendation and will likely make a final decision in March or April.
Hal Silverman, president of Hal Homes, which wanted the new classification for the property at Ridge and Galbraith roads, said he was not surprised by the commission's decision.
Officials said the company has filed a request to change the zoning of the property under the current code from parks to a mixed-use type of zoning that would allow for the homes.
"I don't want any drastic changes ... nothing to upset the general atmosphere of this community," resident Abe Schwartz said after the meeting.
A Feb. 18 hearing on the rezoning of the property will be held at Rockdale Temple.
