Ethics Commission asked to review travel
COLUMBUS - Ohio Auditor Betty Montgomery on Tuesday asked the Ohio Ethics Commission to review the use of discounted or free frequent-flier airline tickets obtained from work-related travel by officials of the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority.
"An allegation came to our attention that employees and/or board members may have accumulated travel award program points for personal use," Craig Morton, chief legal counsel for the auditor, wrote in a letter.
Montgomery said the transit authority recently changed its policy to bar the use of frequent-flier miles for personal benefit.
Ky. teacher incentive facing elimination
FRANKFORT - A program that provides a financial incentive for teachers to become nationally certified is facing elimination in Gov. Ernie Fletcher's proposed budget.
The program gives an annual $2,000 salary supplement to teachers who earn the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. The incentive is credited with increasing the number of nationally board-certified teachers in the state from 37 to 538 in the last four years.
The program is one of three that would either be eliminated or have funding sliced in Fletcher's proposed 2005-06 budget.
