Peggy Weber, 84, generous with her time and talents

Gardener and designer gave floral decorations to schools

By Nicole Hamilton
The Cincinnati Enquirer

When Peggy Weber created a floral centerpiece, she usually didn't stop at one. The dedicated volunteer and talented floral designer sometimes made as many as 40 pieces at a time for her children's schools or her church.

"She had a huge heart and she volunteered her time to support many charitable causes," said her daughter, Jenny Kovacs of Delhi Township.

Peggy S. Weber died Thursday at her home in Green Township of lung failure. She was 84.

"One of her most remarkable traits was her boundless energy," said her son, Patrick Weber of Delhi Township. "She could run circles around people, despite her small size. She was always the last person to go to bed at night and the first person to get up in the morning."

Gardening was her passion.

She took pride in her home garden and, as a member of the Mack Garden Club, would often show it on garden tours.

When the family vacationed at their summer home in Oden, Mich., she placed timed fertilizer sticks in the garden so the family returned to a yard in full bloom.

Raised in Covedale, she graduated from Seton High School and went on to work for Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. during World War II.

She met her husband, the late Harry P. Weber, at a party in Covedale after he returned from the war. The two were married in September 1946.

Mrs. Weber was former president of St. Xavier's Mothers Club, volunteered at Mercy-Franciscan Hospital's Western Hills campus, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was charitable to many organizations.

"The last check she wrote the night before she died was to support a soup kitchen in Over-the-Rhine," said her son.

Besides her daughter and son, other survivors include three sons, Mike Weber and Corky Weber, both of Anderson Township, and Chris Weber of Springfield Township; two sisters, Jane Lindeman of Troy, and Betty Winterhalter of Cheviot; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services have been held.

Burial was in Old St. Joseph Cemetery, Price Hill.

Memorials can be made to the Harry & Peggy Weber Scholarship Fund, St. Xavier High School, 600 North Bend Road, Cincinnati, OH 45224.
