Layoff affects 100 at Fluor Fernald

Fluor Fernald Thursday said 100 employees or contract workers would lose their jobs in the waste management program at the former Fernald uranium processing plant in Crosby Township. "It's another step toward closure" that's scheduled in 2006, Jeff Wagner, director of public affairs for Fluor Fernald, said. It is the fifth round of layoffs at Fernald since 2001. In all, 550 people have left employment either through voluntary buyouts or layoffs.

Cincom donates software to NKU

Springdale's Cincom Systems has donated $150,000 in development software to Northern Kentucky University's master's degree program in information systems. NKU graduate students will use the software to develop a system to evaluate international student application requirements at the university. Students in the program are also working on projects for Fifth Third Bank and L'Oreal cosmetics. The NKU master's degree program in information systems is part of the College of Business.

Formica retirees evaluate law firm

Formica Corp. retirees plan to meet Monday at 11 a.m. at the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Loveland to make a final decision on hiring a law firm. The group, battling cuts in pensions triggered by a company audit, is expected to retain the Cincinnati firm of Mezibov & Jenkins. Frank Ramsey, chairman of the group, said a selection committee will recommend hiring the firm.

CORRECTION: Milacron earnings

Milacron Inc.'s fourth-quarter revenue and earnings were in line with its announced expectations. The headline on the company's earnings report in Thursday's Business section was incorrect.
