DEERFIELD TWP. - A Kings High School math teacher will help determine what concepts students should master at what age.
Margie Coleman recently was chosen to serve on the Ohio Department of Education's writing team for the development of model lessons for math.
The writing team will research, draft, revise, edit and field-test the curriculum model activities. They also will serve as a form of professional development for participating educators.
Team members will meet through the end of March.
Finneytown board member honored
SPRINGFIELD TWP. - Finneytown Board of Education member Kevin Berlon will be presented with the Ohio School Board Association's Award of Achievement at the association's Southwest Region Spring Conference March 16 in Miamisburg.
Each year the school board association presents the award to board members across the state who have demonstrated dedication to self-improvement, service to their association, and work on behalf of their own boards. In addition, the award is given to the board member in recognition of commitment to in-service training and leadership activities on their boards of education.
Madeira High backs arts with breakfast
MADEIRA - The First Fine Arts Festival and Mardi Gras Breakfast will run 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Madeira High School, 7465 Loannes Drive.
Sponsored by the Madeira Music Boosters, there will be performances by every school musical group and student artwork from every school will be on display.
Admission is $8 for the deluxe pancake breakfast or $5 for a standard pancake breakfast.
Turpin to prepare parents on 8th-graders
ANDERSON TWP. - A meeting for parents of eighth-grade students will begin at 7 p.m. today at Turpin High School's auditorium, 2650 Bartels Road.
Parents will be given information for selecting courses for the 2004-05 school year for their children, planning for four years of high school, teacher recommendations, the course selection process and what high school teachers expect of students. Information: 232-7770.
Delhi Frame and Save invites high school art
DELHI TWP. - Local high school students are invited to submit their artwork for a March 31 art show and competition at Delhi Frame and Save, 4956 Delhi Pike.
Art should be matted and may consist of paint, crayons, pencils or other mixed media and should be no larger than 26 inches by 34 inches. Work submitted by the end of February will be displayed throughout March. Projects should be submitted by March 27 to be displayed and judged. Information: 922-9464.
Fairfield presents 'State of the Schools'
FAIRFIELD - Accomplishments of students in the Fairfield Schools will be celebrated today during the annual "State of the Schools" address set for 7 p.m. in the senior high school Performing Arts Center, 8800 Holden Blvd.
Superintendent Robert Farrell and others will speak during the program.
