Employment group to stay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati City Council members sharply criticized a Texas company that provides job placement for city residents, but voted Thursday to extend the company's contract.
"We have a one-stop employment center where we've spent $3.3 million, and their job placement rate is embarrassing," said Vice Mayor Alicia Reece, who led an attempt to cancel the contract for Affiliated Computer Systems Inc., which runs the Southwest Ohio Career Resource Network.
The agency placed 1,984 people into jobs in 2002 and 2003; 36,602 job seekers visited the center.
The city-county entity that oversees the center has blamed the rate on poor organization and an out-of-the-way location in Roselawn.
