Third Watch, 10 p.m., Channels 5, 22

It's a shattering day as Yokas returns to work.

At the fire station, one of the people goes over the edge and holds hostages at gunpoint. In the chaos, a firefighter is shot and sharpshooters take aim.

Meanwhile, the crooked Nardo (Nicholas Turturro, formerly of NYPD Blue) strikes. He kidnaps Bosco's mother, then holds Bosco hostage.

The Fairly Oddparents, 9 p.m., Nickelodeon.

If you missed Monday's premiere of this terrific episode, try it now. Tommy wishes his way into a comic-book world starring his favorite character, Crimson Chin (Jay Leno). The result, drawn in comic-book style, is a delight.

Worth watching

Stanley & Iris (1990), 8 p.m., Pax. Two Oscar winners, Jane Fonda and Robert De Niro, star. She plays a troubled widow; he's a loner who can't read.

Joan of Arcadia, 8 p.m., Channels 12, 7. Joan befriends a teen and is then startled to learn the girl is homeless, spending the day jump-roping in her neighborhood. Meanwhile, Luke is bitter about his academic image. On Take Your Child to Work Day, his dad (the police chief) drops him off at the crime lab. There's also trouble in the romance between Kevin and Rebecca, played by Jason Ritter and Sydney Poitier (both the offspring of Hollywood stars). He falls for someone he interviews, played by Dawson's Creek alumnus Meredith Monroe.

Great American Celebrity Spelling Bee, 8 p.m., Channels 19, 45. The battle is now down to three teams.

The George Lopez Show, 8 p.m., Channels 9, 2. George gives his kids the ultimate punishment: They have to stay with his mother, under her tough rules.

JAG, 9 p.m., Channels 12, 7. Mac is working on a tough diamond-smuggling case that involves the terrorist she pursued.

Hope & Faith, 9 p.m., Channels 9, 2. The sisters slip into a baseball locker room to get Roger Clemens' autograph. Clemens and Willie Randolph appear briefly.

Life With Bonnie, 9:30 p.m., Channels 9, 2. Bonnie and David (Bonnie Hunt and David Alan Grier) co-host a telethon.

Without a Trace, 10 p.m., Channels 12, 7. This transplanted rerun involves a guy who sold his Internet company, made a fortune and became a well-liked teacher before vanishing.
