Ohio development officials on Monday formally offered a 10-year, $4.1 million tax credit to LabOne Inc. if the company agrees to build an $18.4 million medical testing center in Cincinnati.
Lab One already has received an incentive offer from Kentucky, but company officials did not release details. Kentucky officials could not be reached for comment Monday.
In January, the Lenexa, Kan.-based company bought a laboratory division for $38.5 million that had been run by the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.
LabOne officials have said they plan to move the lab from its leased space in Avondale to a highly automated center to be built in Ohio or Kentucky.
The company plans to decide within a week or two which incentive package to accept, said LabOne spokesman John McCarty.
The proposal from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority offers a tax credit valued at $4.1 million over 10 years and requires that LabOne operate the Cincinnati site for at least 16 years.
LabOne told Ohio officials that the new lab would create 500 jobs within its first three years and retain 562 jobs.
