HARRISON - Fernald employees and eligible survivors of former employees will receive assistance today and Wednesday from the U.S. Department of Labor in filing claims for compensation and medical benefits available to atomic weapons employees.
Labor agency staff will be at the Quality Inn in Harrison to answer questions about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act and help fill out claims. Specific illnesses covered include radiogenic cancers, beryllium diseases and chronic silicosis.
Workers who need help filling out claim forms can schedule appointments by calling (866) 353-6993 or by coming to the Quality Inn, 10900 New Haven Road, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today and Wednesday.
Waynesville still under boil advisory
WAYNESVLLE - A boil-water advisory was continued here Monday.
The Warren County Water and Sewer Department issued the advisory Friday for areas including Wayne Township east of the Little Miami River and Caesars Creek State Park.
Waynesville Village Manager Rod Smith said the boil water advisory is still in effect for all of Waynesville and Wayne Township west of Route 42.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recommends that residents either boil water vigorously for at least three minutes prior to use, or use bottled water.
The advisory is a precaution due to a water main break.
SORTA holds hearing about route changes
The Southwestern Ohio Regional Transit Authority will hold a public hearing on proposed route changes today at 4 p.m. at the Albert B. Sabin Cincinnati Convention Center.
The hearing, by transit commissioner Thomas A. Luken, will take comments on the east-side and west-side routes scheduled to be changed or consolidated May 30.
The routes are 10, 32, 33 and 77 on the west side, and 24, 26, 29, 30, 70, 75 and 81 on the east side.
Hutzel campaign plans announcement
MASON - Supporters of Rachel Hutzel, who is vying to keep her job as Warren County prosecutor in a March 2 primary race, will gather for a campaign announcement here Wednesday.
She and "a group of top-name supporters from Southwest Ohio" will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the Marriott North-East.
Hutzel's opponent in the Republican primary is David P. Fornshell of Lebanon, who prosecutes municipal court cases in Blue Ash.
New road to lead to bigger retail center
WEST CHESTER TWP. - The Streets of West Chester retail center will double in size after the township connects Civic Centre Boulevard to Allen Road.
Township trustees authorized issuing $4.1 million in tax increment financing revenue bonds to extend the road south past the shopping center, paralleling Interstate 75 to Allen Road.
