Hockey
MONDAY IN THE NHL: Jose Theodore made 31 saves to snap his five-game losing streak, and Saku Koivu had a goal and two assists, helping the Montreal Canadiens beat the New York Rangers 4-1.
The Canadiens, tied for seventh in the Eastern Conference, lead the 12th-place Rangers by 13 points. With 20 games left, it appears New York will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight year.
Hurricanes 2, Leafs 1: Ron Francis scored his 545th goal, surpassing Maurice Richard for 20th place on the NHL's career list. Former Cincinnati Cyclone Erik Cole also scored a power-play goal for the Hurricanes, who have won just two of their last 10 games.
Lightning 6, Caps 3: Martin St. Louis sparked TB's four-goal third period with a goal and two assists.
Panthers 2, Bruins 0: Roberto Luongo made 38 saves for his fifth shutout of the season in Boston's first regulation loss in 13 games.
COLLEGE: Miami RedHawks forward Greg Hogeboom takes a streak of 147 games played into Friday night's CCHA contest against Western Michigan in Oxford. The Los Angeles Kings' draft choice, who has never missed a game in his college career, is five games from tying the school's all-time ironman mark.
Boxing
DE LA HOYA-HOPKINS: Promoter Bob Arum said he finalized a handshake deal for the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas to host a June 5 fight card featuring middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya in separate bouts.
If the two win, they will meet Sept. 18 at the MGM for the middleweight title.
Amateurs
