The early word

Last minute

Fabulous fiddlers: Hear the stars of tomorrow tonight at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Winners of the CCM violin competition will perform concertos by Bach and Leonard Bernstein's Serenade after Plato's Symposium. Guest conductor Ulrich Nicolai came all the way from Munich, Germany, to conduct the Philharmonia Strings in Arnold Schoenberg's late romantic Verklarte Nacht (Transfigured Night). It's free; 8 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium.

FYI

Farewell Tour: It's your last chance to hear the famed Dale Warland Singers, who will make a Cincinnati stop on their farewell tour, 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, downtown. Led by Dale Warland for 31 years, it's considered one of the world's best a cappella ensembles. Their last-ever concert program includes Russian, American and English works, along with American spirituals and traditional favorites. Tickets: $25 in advance; $28 at the door; $15 students. 421-2222 or www.stpeterinchainscathedral.org.

Can you help? Dame Edna needs our help! While Edna is primping for A Night with Dame Edna (The Show That Cares), opening a two-week engagement at the Aronoff on Tuesday, the megastar's alter-ego, Barry Humphries, is busily researching Cincinnati.

Humphries recalls that, back in the 1950s, a friend of his traveled from Australia to Hebrew Union College. "He would send us things about Cincinnati.

"There was a Cincinnati dancing pig song. It was totally inane. I'm eager to get it on CD." The ever-wicked Humphries added, "some of your geriatric readers will remember..."

If you can help out Humphries and Dame Edna, call Broadway in Cincinnati, 241-2345 ext. 211. For show information and reservations call the box office at 241-7469.

Musical Monday at the Museum: Superstar of the concert organ, Bradley Hunter Welch, visits Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal at 7:30 p.m. Monday, to take the historic 1929 E.M. Skinner Symphonic Concert Pipe Organ out for a whirl. The organist will be joined by soprano Audrey Luna in works by Bach, Couperin and Mozart, in a powerhouse program that includes much more. Tickets: $18. 287-7021 or www.cincymuseum.org.

A noteworthy debut: Violinist Timothy Lees, concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, will make his CCM debut in a concert of chamber music chestnuts, 8 p.m. Tuesday in Robert Werner Recital Hall. He joins CCM faculty members pianist Elizabeth Pridonoff and Randy Gardner, French horn, for Brahms' famous Horn Trio. Cellist Hayk Babyan will join in for Mendelssohn's Trio in C Minor. It's free.
