More Hall of Fame rejection for Rose
Pete Rose was shut out again by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Rose, who in January admitted he bet on baseball, did not receive the minimum of 12 votes from the 16-member committee.
Pilgrim loses UC scholarship
Mike Pilgrim has lost his basketball scholarship at the University of Cincinnati. UC coach Bob Huggins said on his WLW-AM radio show Thursday night that Pilgrim remains enrolled at UC and is attending class but is no longer on scholarship. Pilgrim, a 6-foot-7 forward from Purcell Marian High School and Brewster (N.H.) Academy, suffered a hairline fracture in his foot during the preseason and was redshirted but hasn't been seen around the team in weeks.
Xavier tickets still available
Xavier University has tickets remaining for its final two home games, against Duquesne on Saturday and George Washington on Wednesday. Tickets are $19 each and are available at the Cintas Center ticket office at (513) 745-3411 or TicketMaster outlets. The first 3,000 fans Wednesday will receive a Romain Sato growth chart.
Moeller gym gets USA Today honor
USA Today named Moeller High School one of the best places to watch a prep basketball game. Moeller was included in the Nos. 11-20 list. The only other Ohio school mentioned was Canton McKinley. Of Moeller, the newspaper wrote, "Digital Jumbotrons and an unparalleled noise level."
MND's Thomas on WBCA team
Mount Notre Dame senior Mel Thomas is one of 20 players selected to the annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association high school All-America Team.
Thomas will play in the WBCA All-America game April 3 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA women's Final Four. Thomas, a 5-9 guard, is averaging 21 points a game.
