Arizona's Stoudamire back in lineup vs. WSU

The Associated Press

Salim Stoudamire will be back in the lineup for No. 17 Arizona when the Wildcats try to stop a two-game skid Saturday against Washington State.

Coach Lute Olson said Friday that he had lifted Stoudamire's suspension after one game.

"The reason he will play is I thought we got a very positive reaction out of him," Olson said after meeting with Stoudamire. "He was great on the bench. He was great in the locker room. He was totally supportive and also accepted without question what his penalty was."

Olson announced before Thursday's game against Washington that Stoudamire, a sometimes moody junior whose attitude often has landed him in the coach's doghouse, had been suspended indefinitely "for failure to meet team responsibilities."

Stoudamire was on the bench in street clothes cheering on the Wildcats in their 89-84 loss to the Huskies, a game that moved Washington ahead of Arizona into second place in the Pac-10.

SMU FIRES COACH: SMU fired coach Mike Dement after nine seasons without an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Dement was replaced on an interim basis by seven-year assistant Robert Lineberg. The search for a permanent new coach was under way, athletic director Jim Copeland said.

Dement, who had one year left on his contract and had asked for an extension before the season, went 138-120 with the Mustangs.

PURDUE: Center Ivan Kartelo will sit out part of Sunday's game against Wisconsin as punishment for his arrest in a bar fight.

SOUTHERN CAL: Junior guards Errick and Derrick Craven will each serve a one-game suspension for separate actions in the Trojans' 70-60 victory against California last week.

OKLAHOMA: Coach Kelvin Sampson was reprimanded by university officials and the Big 12 for criticizing officials after a loss at Colorado.
