American Idol, 8 p.m., Channels 19, 45.

Amid the roller coaster of Idol talent, we see one more batch of eight semifinalists.

Viewers will vote two of them into the finals. That will give the show eight finalists, plus 24 people who still have a chance next week. Four of those rejects will be nudged ahead - one each by the three judges and one by the viewers - to wrap up the final 12.

Nova: Life and Death in the War Zone, 8 p.m., Channels 48, 16.

Amid the mixed results of the Iraq war, this documentary says, there's been one towering success: Medical units have performed brilliantly. In addition to saving Americans, they've been helping Iraqi soldiers and civilians. It's an encouraging portrait of humanity and technology at work.

Worth watching

8 Simple Rules, 8 p.m., Channels 9, 2. Peter Bogdanovich plays a family therapist, advising Cate (Katey Sagal) to sing.

Whoopi, 8 p.m., Channels 5, 22. A bachelorette party for Soo Lin heads to a trendy nightclub, where it keeps getting wilder and more expensive.

Happy Family, 8:30 p.m., Channels 5, 22. Andy Richter guest stars as a video-store clerk. John Larroquette soon finds himself in the adult section of the store.

Frasier, 9 p.m., Channels 5, 22. Martin has heart trouble - which can be blamed on Frasier and a clown mask. The situation causes Martin to re-evaluate his relationship with Ronee (Wendie Malick).

Forever Eden, 9 p.m., Channels 19, 45. Here's the second hour of this show. People suspend their regular lives to stay in an idyllic resort.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, 10 p.m., Channels 5, 22. When a young child dies, police initially think a church service may have gone too far.

NYPD Blue, 10 p.m., Channels 9, 2. Police try to get to a hit-and-run driver before the victim's father (a mobster) does.
