NBA: New York's Wilkens booed in winning return to Toronto

The Associated Press

TORONTO - Stephon Marbury scored 35 points and Nazr Mohammed had a season-high 20 points and 18 rebounds to make Knicks coach Lenny Wilkens a winner in his return to Toronto with a 109-103 victory Friday night.

Wilkens returned to Toronto for the first time since being fired after last season. Fans booed his introduction.

"I think Coach Wilkens was really hurt by the reception that he got," New York's Penny Hardaway said. "They way they treated him was disrespectful, so we definitely had to get this one for coach. I looked at his face when they booed. I could tell he was like, 'What can I do?' "

Wilkens said he didn't take it personally.

"When you start taking things personal, let me tell you something, you're going to be in trouble as a person and I don't do that," he said. "I'm not vindictive. I move on. I was happy to see Vince Carter play. He was playing healthy, that's great."

Celtics 94, Wizards 90

BOSTON - Paul Pierce scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had eight assists to lead the Boston Celtics to their fourth straight win.

Ricky Davis scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Mark Blount added 17 points for the Celtics, whose winning streak is their longest under interim coach John Carroll. They won five straight in December under Jim O'Brien.

Cavaliers 88, Hornets 85

NEW ORLEANS - LeBron James scored 19 points and Carlos Boozer had 18 to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers past the New Orleans Hornets.

James hit a 3-pointer with 1:22 left to put Cleveland ahead 84-83, and Boozer made a pair of free throws with 6 seconds remaining for the final margin.

Jamal Mashburn - who made a late 3 to force overtime in a Hornets' victory Wednesday night - had a chance to do it again, but this time his long-range fade was off the mark.

Eric Williams had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Cleveland, including a crucial straightaway jumper with 49 seconds left for an 86-83 lead.

Hornets reserve forward David West, sent into the game when Jamaal Magloire fouled out with just over four minutes to go, put back a rebound to make it 86-85 with 7 seconds left, setting up the final sequence.

Pacers 96, Jazz 88

SALT LAKE CITY - Ron Artest scored eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and Reggie Miller hit a 3-pointer with 24.9 seconds remaining to lift Indiana to a win over Utah.

Jermaine O'Neal had 30 points and 10 rebounds and Fred Jones scored 10 for the Pacers, who blew a 15-point lead and needed to rally for their fourth straight win.

Andrei Kirilenko had 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for Utah, which had won four straight.

Magic 101, Hawks 96

ORLANDO, Fla. - Tracy McGrady had 28 points and Tyronn Lue scored eight consecutive points in the final 1:42 for Orlando's third victory over the Hawks this season.

Lue made two free throws to put Orlando ahead 99-96 with 11.6 seconds to play.

After a timeout, the Hawks' Jason Terry missed a layup and Orlando's Sean Rooks grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He hit both free throws for the final margin.

The Magic, who shot 51.9 percent, got 16 points from Juwan Howard and 14 from reserve Drew Gooden.

LAKERS: Kobe Bryant injured his right shoulder in a collision with Seattle's Reggie Evans, who was setting a pick, with 11:06 remaining in the first quarter of the Lakers' game Friday night and left the arena to have an MRI.

There was no immediate report on how badly his shoulder was hurt, although team spokesman John Black said Bryant had jammed it.

Bryant missed six games earlier this season because of his shoulder.
