NKU women get NCAA Tourney bid

The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team received a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament Sunday night and will play Quincy (Ill.) Friday in the opening round of the Great Lakes Regional at Quincy, Ill.
NKU (17-10) will meet top-seeded Quincy (26-4) at 6:30 p.m. in the first round. The Norse lost twice to Quincy during the regular season.
In Division III, Thomas More College will host Wilmington at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Sweet 16. TMC, 21-6, is coming off an upset of fifth-ranked DePauw. Wilmington is making its third straight Sweet 16 appearance.
Ducks win; Miami will host LSSU in playoffs
CLEVELAND - Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves to lead the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks over the Cleveland Barons 4-1 Sunday in the AHL at Gund Arena. The Ducks snapped a four-game losing and seven-game winless streak (0-6-1-0).

MIAMI REDHAWKS: No. 9 Miami fell one point short of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title when No. 11 Ohio State's Lee Spector scored with 1:11 left to lift the Buckeyes past the RedHawks 5-4 before 8,001 fans Saturday at OSU's Value City Arena.
The RedHawks (20-12-4) finished the regular season second in the CCHA at 17-8-3. They host 11th-seeded Lake Superior at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday in a best-of-3 CCHA playoff series.
Miami won both games at LSSU this season, but the RedHawks have failed to advance past the first round in Enrico Blasi's first four years as head coach despite twice having home-ice advantage.
SUNDAY IN THE NHL: Marty Turco made 22 saves for his 19th career shutout, and the Dallas Stars set a franchise record by extending their home unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 4-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

XAVIER MEN: Coach Thad Matta said the Musketeers will play in the University of Arizona's Fiesta Bowl Classic during the 2005-06 season. XU will be in a field of four with Arizona, Pennsylvania and Texas A&M.

FORD CHAMPIONSHIP: Craig Parry 6-iron shot from 176 yards bounced twice and rolled into the hole for an eagle to beat Scott Verplank on the first playoff hole at Dora in Miami. Parry's eagle came on the Blue Monster's signature 18th hole - the toughest on the PGA Tour this year.
DUBAI CLASSIC: Mark O'Meara , 47, was a winner again for the first time in six years, and Tiger Woods was there to greet him with a hug. O'Meara finished at 17-under 271 and earned $333,330, a fraction of Woods' $3 million appearance fee. Woods finished five behind in a tie for fifth.
MASTERCARD CLASSIC: Ed Fiori won his first Champions Tour title, beating Graham Marsh with a par on the third hole of a playoff.
WOMEN'S AUSTRALIAN: Laura Davies won the rain-delayed event, finishing off a 2-under 70 for a six-stroke victory over Rachel Teske.

TEMPLETON CLASSIC: Vincent Spadea won his first ATP Tour title, beating Nicolas Kiefer 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at Scottsdale, Ariz.
DUBAI OPEN: Top-ranked Roger Federer rallied past Feliciano Lopez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to become the first man to successfully defend his title. He extended his record this year to 16-1.

BOWLING: Steve Jaros made a big statement in his quest to win the PBA Player of the Year award by defeating Dave D'Entremont 257-195 for his third title of the season in the Uniroyal Tire Classic at Indianapolis.
