C-USA Tournament tidbits

Top scoring performance: Larry Hughes, Saint Louis, 37, vs. UAB, 1998.

Top rebounding: Amal McCaskill, Marquette, 16, vs. Memphis, 1996.

Most championships: Cincinnati, 3 (1996, 1998, 2002).

Most finals reached: Charlotte and Cincinnati, 4.

First tournament championship: Cincinnati 85, Marquette 84 (OT), Memphis, Tenn., 1996.

Top tournament moments:

1996: C-USA holds its first league tournament and four top 25 teams - Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis and Marquette - make the tourney semifinals. UC beats Marquette 85-84 in overtime for the championship.

2000: Cincinnati's National Player of the Year Kenyon Martin breaks his leg in the first three minutes of UC's quarterfinals game against Saint Louis. The ninth-seeded Billikens upset top-seeded UC 68-58 and move on to become the lowest-seeded team to win the C-USA championship.

2003: Ninth-seeded UAB makes a run at the tournament title by defeating three higher-seeded teams. But Louisville wins championship.
