For local men's and women's college basketball teams, the wait is finally over.
NCAA brackets were announced Sunday for the men's tournament, which begins Tuesday with a play-in game, and the women's tournament, which starts Saturday.
There were few surprises on the men's side, with Kentucky being selected as the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament field. The Wildcats (26-4), Sunday's Southeastern Conference champs, are the top seed in the St. Louis regional and will host Lehigh (20-10) or Florida A&M (14-16) Friday in Columbus. Their fate lies in Tuesday's play-in game in Dayton.
Conference USA Tournament winner Cincinnati (24-6) garnered a fourth seed and will play 13th seed East Tennessee State (27-5) in the Atlanta regional, Friday in Columbus.
After knocking off then-undefeated Saint Joseph's and becoming the first Atlantic 10 team to win four conference tournament games in four days, A-10 champion Xavier (23-10) was awarded a seven seed in the Atlanta regional. The Musketeers face 10th seed Louisville (20-9) Friday in Orlando, Fla.
Tenth-seeded Dayton (24-8), A-10 Tournament runner-up, plays No. 7 DePaul (21-9) in the Phoenix regional, Thursday in Buffalo.
In the women's tournament, Ohio State (20-9), the sixth seed in the Midwest, faces West Virginia (21-10) in Columbus on Saturday.
