Keyshawn-Galloway trade back on radar

NFL roundup

The Associated Press

IRVING, Texas - The proposed trade that would send Keyshawn Johnson to the Dallas Cowboys and Joey Galloway to Tampa Bay finally could be coming together.

The deal stalled when the Buccaneers refused to offer more than $1 million for one year to Galloway, who is due $6.31 million under his existing contract. Tampa Bay upped its bid Wednesday, a day after Galloway visited the team.

"Joey had a very positive visit and they have improved their offer," agent Leigh Steinberg said. "We're getting closer. Discussions are ongoing."

Tampa Bay is likely to get rid of Johnson one way or another by April 1, when he's due a $1 million roster bonus. The Bucs would prefer to get something for him.

Talks with Dallas went far enough that both teams were allowed to try to strike new contracts with their prospective players. Johnson already agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract with a $4 million bonus with the Cowboys.

When Tampa Bay wasn't able to work out anything with Galloway, Dallas refused to offer a draft pick, figuring it could wait for the Bucs to release Johnson.

Johnson was inactive the final six games last season because of a spat with coach Jon Gruden.

Galloway never lived up to expectations since Dallas gave up two first-round picks to acquire him before the 2000 season.

CHARGERS: Free safety Jerry Wilson re-signed with San Diego, agreeing to a one-year deal.

Wilson, an unrestricted free agent, started 16 games last year and was the team's No. 3 tackler with 82. He also had an interception and forced three fumbles.

GIANTS: New York released offensive tackle Jeff Hatch and also added depth to its defensive line by signing tackle Martin Chase, a six-year veteran who spent last season with Washington.

Hatch started the final four games of last season at right tackle.

SAINTS: The team signed offensive lineman Spencer Folau to a three-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Folau, entering his eighth NFL season, has started 17 games in the last two for the Saints, playing guard and tackle.
