Cowboys-Bucs trade
awaits Galloway's OK
The Associated Press
IRVING, Texas - Drew Henson finally can be considered a Dallas Cowboy. As for Keyshawn Johnson, his status with Dallas is in the hands of Joey Galloway.
Galloway spent Thursday deciding whether to accept a one-year contract with Tampa Bay that could be worth $2.6 million if he earns all incentives, according to a source close to negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity.
If he takes it, he'll be dealt for Johnson. If not, the deal is off, and it's likely the Cowboys would have to wait for Tampa Bay to release Johnson - probably by April 1, when he's owed a $1 million bonus.
"We've told Tampa that we'll tell them (today)," said Galloway's agent, Leigh Steinberg. "Things look very promising."
Johnson already has agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract with a $4 million bonus to play for Dallas - and for Bill Parcells, his coach for three seasons with the Jets.
The Cowboys agreed last Friday to give quarterback Henson an eight-year deal that guarantees him $3.5 million and can be voided after four years; they also agreed to acquire him from the Houston Texans for a third-round pick in 2005.
The NFL scrutinized the contract because it goes two years beyond the collective bargaining agreement. On Thursday, officials said it would be approved.
GIANTS: Mike Hollis, who suffered a back injury and never kicked in a regular-season game after signing a five-year, $4 million deal a year ago, was waived.
BUCCANEERS: Running back Jamel White, who finished second on the Browns with 46 receptions for 303 yards and one touchdown last season, was signed. He rushed for 266 yards and one TD in 2003.
49ERS: Tight end Eric Johnson re-signed, getting a three-year, $4.5 million deal. He missed last season after breaking his collarbone in an exhibition game but had 76 catches for 683 yards and three TDs in his first two NFL seasons.
DOLPHINS: David Boston passed his team physical, completing his trade from San Diego to Miami. The Dolphins gave up backup cornerback Jamar Fletcher and a sixth-round draft pick in 2005.
REDSKINS: Deals were reached with cornerbacks Ralph Brown and Walt Harris.
Brown, who agreed to a two-year, $1.4 million contract, started seven games for the Giants last season, but dislocated his shoulder in early November.
Harris, a starter the last two seasons with Indianapolis, agreed to a three-year deal that includes contingencies that hinge on his recovery from a recent knee injury.
