BELLEVUE - William Herklotz spent more than two decades helping improve the schools in the town where he was born and raised.
The Bellevue native served as chairman of the Bellevue Board of Education for two terms. He was also a Bellevue band parent, serving as its treasurer.
Mr. Herklotz died March 13 at Saint Luke Hospital East after a long illness. He was 80.
"He was definitely not an introvert," said his wife, Wilma. "He had an unusual sense of humor and was very outgoing - but he was also quiet."
After graduating from Bellevue High School, Mr. Herklotz entered the Navy to serve in World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater.
Honorably discharged in 1946, he attended the University of Cincinnati under the G.I. Bill and earned an associate's degree in accounting. In later years, he took additional courses in computer science.
Mr. Herklotz worked as an accountant for 35 years at Didier-Taylor Refractory in Newtown. He worked as an accountant for Talbert House after he retired and was active in his church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Bellevue, where he sang in the choir and served on the council.
Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters, Chris Gary of Jeffersonville, Ind.; Kate Stansberger of Silver City, N.M.; and Anna Herklotz of Milan, Italy; three sons, Hans of Lexington, and Karl and Marc, both of Fort Thomas; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 306 Center St., Bellevue, 41073.
