A convicted killer and a convicted robber were arrested Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old convenience-store clerk in Newtown.
Torino Gudger, 32, of Pleasant Ridge, was charged with murder and aggravated murder in the Sunday slaying of James Chisenhall, authorities said. Elroy "Roy" Wallace, 58, also of Pleasant Ridge, was charged with complicity to aggravated murder and complicity to aggravated robbery.
Newtown police officers had responded to the AmeriStop Express store at 3804 Church St. about 1:55 a.m. after Chisenhall was found on the floor in the store's office. The Milford resident, described as a friendly and dedicated employee, had been shot multiple times.
Gudger and Wallace were developed as suspects from evidence found and information gathered at the crime scene, the sheriff's office said.
A sheriff's patrol deputy spotted Gudger driving in Columbia Township about 2:45 a.m. Thursday and arrested him. Wallace was arrested at his home a short time later.
Gudger was sent to prison on a 1991 aggravated burglary and robbery conviction. He was sentenced to seven to 25 years and five to 15 years.
Wallace was charged with murder and theft in 1990, but was convicted of the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison. Wallace was charged in the stabbing death of 36-year-old Robert Whaley at the victim's Sycamore Township condominium. Whaley, a Procter & Gamble Co. engineer, was stabbed 29 times. Wallace had worked as a maintenance man on rental property owned by Whaley.
Both suspects remain in the Hamilton County Jail and will have a hearing today on the charges.
