Gassert hosts fund-raiser
Newport mayoral candidate Sam Gassert will host a campaign fund-raiser at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Travelodge Hotel Conference Hall in Newport. Gassert said he would take no contributions more than $50.
Gassert is challenging Newport Mayor Tom Guidugli in the November election.
Boone Democrats meet next month

Shumate leads Kenton GOP
Greg Shumate has been re-elected chairman of the Kenton County Republican Party. Other officers are Beth Rose, vice chairwoman; Shad Sletto, secretary; Andy Bertke, treasurer; and Kenton County Commissioner Adam Koenig, youth chairman.
Executive committee members are Brook Brooking, Brian Dunham, Jeff Fisk, Ken Harper, Dave Hatter, Bob Hitch, Mike Hodge, Gary Johnston, Joe Koester Ruth Korzenborn, John Middleton, Tony Milburn, Beth Sewell, Ted Smith and Rob Ziegler.
Shumate will appoint an additional 15 members to the committee at the party's next meeting, which is set for at 6 p.m. April 19 at county GOP headquarters on Dixie Highway in Fort Wright.
