CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Perry Clark had consecutive losing seasons and very little support from boosters - a troubling combination Miami officials couldn't overlook.
So athletic director Paul Dee fired Clark on Friday despite having to pay him nearly $2.5 million for the final three years of a seven-year contract.
PURDUE: Gene Keady still believes he will leave on his own terms. He's just not sure yet when the moment might come.
In his most extensive comments since interviewing with the University of San Francisco, Keady said Friday he had no timetable for deciding whether to accept any offer he might receive to coach the Dons. Keady, who has coached at Purdue for 24 seasons, has one year remaining on his contract.
KENTUCKY: Starting point guard Cliff Hawkins has withdrawn his 2003 Southeastern Conference championship ring from an Internet auction site.
Hawkins, whose Kentucky career ended Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, put the ring up for sale on eBay on Tuesday. He withdrew it two days later, after the bidding had surpassed $3,000.
SMU: Oklahoma assistant Jimmy Tubbs was hired as coach.
NAVY: Former Villanova assistant coach Billy Lange has been named head coach.
