AHL Ducks rally, defeat Chicago 5-3; 'Clones fall

Tony Martensson and Joel Stepp scored 27 seconds apart in the third period, and the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks came from behind to defeat the Chicago Wolves 5-3 Friday night in an AHL game at Cincinnati Gardens. The Ducks play Cleveland in the sixth game of the Labatt Blue Cup series at 7:35 p.m. today at the Gardens. The first 2,500 fans receive an Anaheim Mighty Ducks cap.

HALL OF FAME: Former Swords and Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bill Hajt and former Enquirer cartoonist Jerry Dowling, along with deceased Mohawks star Phil Hergesheimer, were inducted into the Cincinnati Hockey Hall of Fame Friday night at the Ducks game.
ECHL 'CLONES LOSE: Cincinnati lost 4-3 to Reading in the Cyclones' final home game at U.S. Bank Arena. Cyclone Mike Henderson scored twice.
BUCKEYES LOSE IN OT: Dan Boeser scored on a rebound at 12:03 of overtime to give Wisconsin a 1-0 victory over Ohio State in the semifinals of the NCAA East Regional in Albany, N.Y.
Wisconsin (22-12-8) will meet top-ranked Maine tonight for a berth in the Frozen Four in Boston. The Black Bears rallied past Harvard 5-4 earlier Friday.
FRIDAY IN THE NHL: Rookie Scott Clemmensen made 18 saves for his second road shutout in New Jersey's 5-0 victory over Atlanta.
Sabres 5, Penguins 1: Jay McKee and Chris Drury scored in a one-minute span in the second period.
Jackets 3, Ducks 1: Fred Brathwaite made 43 saves, and rookie Nikolai Zherdev had a goal and an assist for Columbus.

NCAA MEET: Ian Crocker closed out his career at Texas by setting a world record in the 100-meter butterfly at East Meadow, N.Y., winning the event for the fourth straight year. Teammate Brendan Hansen also completed a four-year sweep in the 100 breaststroke, in 58.19 seconds. Crocker won in 49.07 seconds, and the duo became the ninth and 10th swimmers to win four straight events in NCAA championships history.
St. Xavier grad Jayme Cramer of Stanford claimed the championship in the 200 freestyle, edging Michigan's Dan Ketchum, a Sycamore grad, by .07 seconds. Cramer won in 1:45.04 to Ketchum's 1:45.11. Ketchum later won the title in the 800 free relay along with Peter Vanderkaay, Andrew Hurd and Davis Tarwater in 7:01.42.
THORPE DQ'D: World record-holder Ian Thorpe, 21, lost a chance to defend his 400-meter freestyle title in the Athens Olympics after being disqualified in the Australian trials. Thorpe fell off the starting blocks He said he heard a noise, disrupting his concentration.

KEENELAND: Kentucky Derby prospect Eurosilver is being treated for an infection and will miss the Blue Grass Stakes on April 10.
DUBAI WORLD CUP: Medaglia d'Oro has been a runner-up in America's richest race the past two years. Today, the horse will try to win the world's richest race - a $6 million race. Medaglia d'Oro finished second to Pleasantly Perfect in last year's $4 million Breeders' Cup Classic and second to Volponi in the 2002 edition.
