Dana axle plant to cut 146 jobs

Tristate summary

Staff/Wire reports

Dana Corp. has notified Kentucky state officials of plans to eliminate 146 jobs at its Dry Ridge axle component plant over the next two months.

The Toledo-based company said the move, which will reduce plant employment to 234, was triggered by DaimlerChrysler Corp.'s decision to produce axles and components for its Jeep Grand Cherokee at a Detroit-area plant, rather than in Dry Ridge, said spokesman Gary Corrigan.

The five-year-old plant also produces axles and components for the Jeep Wrangler.

Milford bank completes merger

Bramble Savings Bank of Milford has completed its merger with First Savings Bank of Norwood. The deal will give Bramble branches in Colerain Township, Loveland and Norwood, for a total of four branches in Greater Cincinnati. The merger, which helps First Savings overcome operational, management and regulatory issues, will create a combined thrift with assets of about $55 million and deposits of almost $46 million. The merged entity will operate as Bramble Savings Bank.
