Crews to collect grass, leaves

Local news briefs

The Cincinnati Department of Public Services will resume yard waste collections next week after a three-month winter hiatus.

Crews will accept grass clippings, leaves, branches and brush for pick-up the same day as the regular garbage collection. Residents should place waste in biodegradable brown paper bags, or trash cans clearly marked "yard waste." Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.

For more information, call 591-6000. In Hamilton County, residents can take yard waste to three sites on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m., except Easter Sunday, April 11. The sites are Evans Landscaping, 3700 Roundbottom Road, Newtown; Kuliga Park, 6717 Bridgetown Road, Green Township; and Rumpke Sanitary Landfill, Struble Road and Colerain Avenue, Colerain Township. Information, 946-7755.

Veterans to gather in Washington

This Memorial Day weekend, on the National Mall in Washington, America will say thanks in a permanent way to the men and women who served the country six decades ago in World War II. World War II veterans by the tens of thousands are expected to make the pilgrimage to the nation's capital for the May 29 dedication of a National World War II Memorial to meet old comrades and reflect on the days many years ago when they wore the uniform of their country and saved the world from oppression. Many of those veterans will be from the Tristate.

If you or someone you know are planning to attend the World War II memorial dedication, the Enquirer would like to hear from you. Please contact reporter Howard Wilkinson by phone at (513) 768-8388, via this form, or e-mail hwilkinson@enquirer.com. Include your name, residence and daytime phone number.

TRAFFIC WATCH

• Rhea Avenue in Hamilton will be closed between Eaton and Progress avenues from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily through Friday. • The northbound lanes of the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge will be closed on the Ohio side between Second and Third streets until September. Northbound travelers can exit at Second Street.

• Northbound Interstate 75 will be restricted to one lane at Buttermilk Pike in Kenton County from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. today. Expect delays.
