Bargains converted into new designs
University of Cincinnati fashion design sophomores are retro-fitting bargains from the Society of St. Vincent dePaul's stores into new designs for an October fashion show at the 20th Century in Oakley. Each student was given a $15 voucher to buy anything, from tablecloths to old clothes, to convert into clothing.
"I transformed a large blazer into a simple, elegant dress," says Michelle Yi of Anderson Township. Wendy Mefford of Springdale made a long 1940s-inspired evening gown from a child's bedsheet. Kelly Barnhill made a wedding gown from 40 T-shirts cut into strips. Information: 562-8841.
Prom model call: Lazarus-Macy's is looking girls 13 to 18 years old to model in the Tri-County store's Prom Fashion Show, 2 p.m. Saturday. Judges will select 15 models 5-7 p.m. Thursday to be in the Saturday runway show. Each winner will get a gift certificate for $150 toward a prom dress. Information: 782-2207.
Hunt Club for men: Custom suits, sport coats and pants from Hickey-Freeman will be in the spotlight next Tuesday and April 7 at Hunt Club Clothiers on Fountain Square Plaza. Information: 721-2004.
Bunny breakfast: Parisian is hosting a bunny breakfast 9 a.m. Saturday that includes a digital photo with the Easter Bunny and crafts.Cost: $15 for one parent and one child. Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes. Information: 792-2400.
Stein Mart and Shriners: The Rookwood Pavilion Stein Mart salutes the Syrian Shrine Temple 6:30-9 p.m. Sunday with several Shrine units, the Oriental Band, drawings for gift certificates and informal modeling. Tickets, $5, at the door or by calling 751-3800.
Plus-size model search: Lane Bryant and Ford 12+, the plus-size division of Ford Models Inc., are searching for the next plus-size supermodel. Montgomery quilter competes: Elaine Plogman is a semifinalist for the American Quilter's Society Quilt Show & Contest April 21-24 in Paducah, Ky., for a share of $100,000 in prize money.
