Roddick gears up for Swedes in Davis Cup
The Enquirer and wire reports
Andy Roddick is the ATP Tour's leader in matches won this year, is coming off a title at the Nasdaq-100 Open and has climbed back to the world's No. 2 ranking.
Roddick has lost only five of 31 matches this year, but two of those losses were straight-setters against Thomas Enqvist and Jonas Bjorkman. He'll face one of those two players Friday when Team USA and Sweden open their best-of-5 Davis Cup quarterfinal matchup in Delray Beach, Fla.
Roddick will be a big key if the Americans are to win their first Davis Cup title since 1995 and end the nation's longest drought in seven decades. He and Mardy Fish will play singles. Bob and Mike Bryan will be the doubles representatives for the Americans.
MARTINA'S MISSION: Martina Navratilova, 47, is making her first singles appearance in the United States in 10 years in this week's Bausch & Lomb Championships, a Tier II event at Amelia Island, Fla., she won three times during the 1980s - including the tournament's first title 25 years ago.
Basketball
ALL-STAR GAME: Xavier recruit Josh Duncan of Moeller will be among the players participating in the 13th annual Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game on Saturday night at Thomas More College. Lisa Rusche of Oak Hills is on the Ohio girls' team.
The girls' game begins at 6 p.m. The boys' game follows at about 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at Connor Convocation Center, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mason County's Chris Lofton, leading Mr. Basketball candidate, heads the Kentucky boys' squad.

He also has appeared in 20 games with Cincinnati this season, recording three goals and seven assists. Cincinnati reassigned center Igor Pohanka to ECHL San Diego.
BLUE JACKETS: Left wing Rick Nash, 19, has been selected to play for Team Canada in the world championships April 24 to May 9 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Rafael Bejarano won leading jockey honors, winning a record 150 races from 472 mounts and shattering the previous record for number of wins (111). Greg Foley was leading trainer, saddling 24 winners from 71 starters. Ronald McKay's M.Y. Stables Inc. led the owners with six victories.
HALL OF FAME NOMS: Jockey Jose Santos and trainer Nick Zito were among 13 jockeys, trainers and horses nominated for the shrine in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
