Money released for flooded homes
FAIRFIELD - A two-year process that could lead to Fairfield buying and demolishing 23 flood-prone houses began Tuesday with the official release of $2.5 million by the federal government. A public meeting will be scheduled for late May or early June with 23 homeowners - mostly on Banker Drive and Crystal Drive - specified in the grant, said Jim Turner, city engineer. One frequently asked question has been answered: If any of the 23 reject the offer, the city cannot buy other homes in the area with the money, Turner said.
