Vacant Newport house burns; arson is likely cause
The Cincinnati Enquirer
NEWPORT - Investigators believe arson was the cause of a fire Thursday night in a vacant house that was to be torn down for redevelopment.
Shortly after 8 p.m., Newport firefighters were called to a two-story house at 726 Ann St. They found the second floor engulfed in flames. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours. Capt. Bill Ravenscraft deemed the house a total loss.
No utilities were on in the vacant home, leading investigators to suspect arson.
"I just can't believe it would be anything else," Ravenscraft said.
