Ex-officer charged in wife's death 9 years ago
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Former Springboro Police Lt. Thomas "Jim" Barton was charged Friday in the shooting death of his wife nine years ago.
A Warren County grand jury indicted Barton on complicity to involuntary manslaughter, complicity to aggravated burglary and complicity to burglary.
The indictment came almost exactly nine years after Barton's wife, 40-year-old Vickie Barton, was sexually assaulted and shot to death.
Police say the investigation gathered momentum when the Warren County Cold Case Squad began to re-examine old evidence and witnesses last year.
Barton was suspended from the Springboro police department on Jan. 20, after investigators told Chief Jeff Kruithoff about the status of the probe. Barton retired from the department in February.
