Man indicted in fatal shooting of woman
Johnathan White fatally shot Rochelle Weis six times before he ran off, according to a Hamilton County grand jury indictment released Friday.
White, 28, of Pleasant Ridge, was charged with felony murder. If convicted of killing the 23-year-old woman, White could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Weis' body was found Dec. 4 in the 6100 block of Tulane Road, about a block from Montgomery Road.
Neighbors were able to describe White and his car to authorities, who arrested White in March on an unrelated driving charge.
Middletown police to start 'traffic blitz'
Middletown Police launched a "traffic blitz" Friday, a weeklong crackdown on speeding, drunken driving and seat belt violations.
Police officials say the blitz means additional officers will be on the road patrolling areas that have high accident rates. They also will add patrols to school zones. The goal is to reduce the number of fatal accidents and serious crashes in the city.
The blitz is the first of several planned this year in Middletown. The future dates, like this one, focus on holidays and other times of increased traffic congestion and higher traffic rates.
Ammonia leak closes roads
An ammonia gas leak in Ross Township late Friday prompted authorities to close roads and order residents to stay indoors.
A Butler County sheriff's spokesman said investigators called in a hazardous materials team but were unsure of the source of the gas. The Ross Township fire department and the American Red Cross also were on the scene.
The leak was discovered in a field around 9:30 p.m. near Timberman and New London roads. Both roads were closed for several hours Friday.
Residents were ordered to remain in their homes, close their windows and turn off their heating and air conditioning.
