Find a walking buddy through Erlanger club

ERLANGER - Residents looking for a walking buddy can join the Erlanger Walking Club.

The club will hold its organizational meeting at 7 p.m. May 10 at the Erlanger city building, 505 Commonwealth Ave. It normally will meet the second Monday of the month. Meetings will last about 30 to 40 minutes.

For information, call Kathy Cahill, who coordinates Erlanger's parks and recreation program, at (859) 727-7955.

Community center director wins award

COVINGTON - Tom DiBello, executive director of the Covington Community Center, is the recipient of the 2004 Covington Award given annually by the Friends of Covington.

The award recognizes significant contributions to the city. DiBello is being recognized for his long-term commitment to Covington, his leadership of the center and the positive impact the center has had during his tenure as executive director.

DiBello will receive the award at a May 20 dinner at the Drees Pavilion in Devou Park. Tickets are $45. Any profit from the event will benefit the Friends of Covington and Covington Community Center. For tickets, contact Daphne Combs at (859) 491-2220 ext. 10.

Mayor's pay will go up but not council's

FORT MITCHELL - The next mayor here will get a pay raise, but city council defeated a proposal to increase future council members' salaries.

At its April 19 meeting, Fort Mitchell City Council voted 5-4 to raise the mayor's annual salary from $2,600 to $5,000 when the current mayor's term ends. That change takes effect Jan. 1, 2007.

Council defeated a proposal to raise the next city council members' annual pay. That measure was defeated by a vote of 5-3.

A couple of council members who are leaving office at the end of the year proposed the increases. Fort Mitchell Administrator Bill Goetz said Fort Mitchell City Council members' pay is lower than in many other Kenton County cities.
