Neighbors briefs

Public can tour World War II planes

BLUE ASH - Aircraft buffs will find two World War II planes - a 1941 North American AT-6 "Texan" and a 1942 Boeing N2S-5 "Stearman" biplane - at the Cincinnati-Blue Ash Airport Saturday through Monday.

The plans were flown in as part of an event by Warbird SkyVentures of Nashville that allows the public to purchase flights in the vintage aircraft and to tour the planes.

Flight reservations for both days are booked solid, but tours are available free. The event runs daily from 8 a.m. until dark, near Co-Op Aircraft Service, 4273 Glendale-Milford Road.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - The Cincinnati Alumni Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers will host the 10th annual Engineer-For-A-Day program at the University of Cincinnati from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Baldwin Hall, 2529 Campus Drive. Students, from Grades 5-12, will participate in interactive games, demonstrations, projects and panels designed to educate them on the various technical jobs and positions held by engineers and scientists. For more information: (859) 572-8612.

Jakaro runoff study available to view

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP - A yearlong study of the water runoff problem in the Jakaro Drive area is complete and provides three possible plans to reduce flooding.

Neighbors along Jakaro Drive have experienced varying degrees of flooding since 1989, with intense storms causing serious flooding in 2001 and 2002, township officials said.

Residents and township officials may meet soon to discuss alternatives, said Steve Sievers, Anderson's director of development services.

The study is available for viewing at the township hall, 7954 Beechmont Ave., or call 474-5123.

Hydrant testing may discolor water

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP - Tap water may be rusty in the southwest area of the township starting May 3 while the fire department tests hydrants.

Fire officials recommend residents use only cold water during these periods because the rust could damage hot water tanks.

Testing will continue through May 8, and water may appear rusty for up to two hours in the immediate area.

For a schedule of hydrant testing locations, call 792-8565.

Stoker president of senior board

HAMILTON - West Chester Township Trustee Catherine Stoker has been appointed president of the Senior Citizens Inc. Board of Trustees.

Stoker, in her fifth year on the board, will preside over the 19-member board at monthly meetings. New board members include Fairfield architect Derek Howard; Morgan Township Trustee Nancy Poe; Butler County Economic Development Director Andrew Kuchta; retired Procter & Gamble Co. manager J. Harold Saylor; and former Hamilton Red Cross chapter director Ken Snyder.

Stoker and her husband, Michael, own a computer support business, Brite Belt Technologies.

She also is a Democratic Party candidate for Butler County commissioner in November
