Elder and Seton high schools put on a fun and emotional performance of Fiddler on the Roof, as well as a good reminder about what is really important in life.
Set in the small Jewish town of Anavetka, Russia, the story revolves around Tevye and his struggle to maintain the sturdy structure of tradition, while trying to please his nagging wife and unmarried daughters.
Chris Heaton, as Tevye, was dynamic and charismatic.
Katie Doll played Tevye's wife, Golde. Loud and demanding, she played the "straight guy" to Tevye's jokes and thus added humor.
Tevye's daughter, Tzeitel (Kelly Cagney), transformed from daughter to wife to mother, displaying a quiet innocence and emotion.
Erin Hegner played Tzeitel's younger sister, Hodel. One of the most memorable parts of the musical was her song "Far From The Home I Love."
Carlie Ahrens as Chava, Brandon Ranier as Lazar Wolf and Liz Coz as the Matchmaker showed good understanding of their parts.
Anna Harvey, Taylor High School
EXCERPTS:
Chris Heaton commanded the stage with a paternal presence that was endearing.
Will Burress, Mason High School
The songs in which the entire cast was featured, such as "Tradition" and "The Dream," were powerful and moving.
Rebecca Griffiths, Taylor High School
A great amount of attention was paid to detail, especially in replicating the Jewish culture.
Valerie Gerlock, Fairfield High School
Tony Bianco portrayed Perchik, Hodel's revolutionary husband, singing his love song, "Now I Have Everything," with moving strength.
Kate Hattemer, Walnut Hills High School
Perhaps the most memorable scene of the show was "To Life." In the song, Tevye and Lazar Wolf are celebrating Wolf's engagement to Tevye's oldest daughter, Tzeitel. The song takes place in a bar; therefore, it is expected to be loud and boisterous. The song was just that - Mr. Heaton's drunken Tevye was priceless, and Sasha (Pat Koopman) sang the Russian part flawlessly.
Carolyn Toth Mount Notre Dame High School
Much attention was paid to detail - down to the paint on the walls and the peppers that hung in Tevye's household.
Leah Sabato, Taylor High School
A very humorous component of the cast was Craig Piecuch, playing the rabbi. Although his lines were small, they were tremendously effective.
Jasmine Wood, Taylor High School
Katie Doll's perfectly timed criticisms and complaints elicited laughter from the audience.
Stacy Goldston Mason High School
