LAKESIDE PARK - John H. Hoffman Jr., retired manager of the Fort Mitchell Kroger store, died at Good Samaritan Hospital April 14. He was 72.
Mr. Hoffman, a native of Bellevue, attended St. Anthony Commercial High School before going to work as a produce clerk for Kroger in 1948.
He entered the Army during the Korean War. "He was over there for a year," said his wife, Marian Schneider Hoffman, and he served as a supply sergeant.
Mr. Hoffman received his high school equivalency while serving in South Korea. He returned to his job at Kroger and, in 1961, received a degree from Xavier University.
He retired in 1994.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of St. Pius X Church, Cincinnati Carvers Club, River Valley Woodcarvers Club, Golden Age Club of Edgewood and the American Legion Post 203. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, survivors include six daughters, Joyce Mothershead of Lakeside Park, Carol Buchanan of Montgomery, Teri Hensley of Taylor Mill, Linda Shelton and Jacqueline Hoffman, both of Fort Wright, and Marcia Fannin of Latonia; a son, J. Jude Hoffman of Edgewood; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services have been held. Entombment was at St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum in Fort Mitchell.
